2nd Year student Elliot Ford: Colour of Nothing

Extract from the 2nd year Photographic Sequences project

Locations- London, Cambridge, Manchester, making my work from what I see by combining all shoots together to create a photographic sequence with some being double exposures. I aimed to hit the spirit of age and time of now by capturing raw urban industrial places against natural places & modernisation of formative elements: Style, attitude with an eye for minimalistic detail whilst echoing natural proceedings.
Some photographs change the way we look at the world and I want to show this by photographing a whole different perspective in analogue form. Rediscovering the development of the way we look at life in different areas and walks of life. Communication brings people together, mundane things which are not that exciting in themselves but they say something about the way we live our lives. And the surroundings we live in. Trying to make things which are small, big and the little things much more in the moment.

MA student Loren McCarthy : Desolation

What does your local high street say? Are some High street stores an out dated form of consumerism, with people choosing to go home and order online instead?

This is an on-going documentary project that explores the changes to our local towns, focusing on Southend-On-Sea, Essex, and a seaside town that is rapidly losing its identity. The high street is now mainly made up of fast food restaurants, empty units, discount stores and betting stores.

I want to visually communicate this through a series of images alongside interviews that give an insight into the real High Street.

A series of postcards have been created, taking the project further, these postcards include interviews from local residents and store owners, detailing what they think of the high street and where they see its future.

Major Project by Xiaoxiao Yu - Homestay

This series of photographs is set in living rooms in the UK, showing homestay families. The relationship between landlord and foreign student is often long lasting and close. Students become part of this extended family. International students live with a homestay family for improving language skills and adapting local lifestyle. The homestay families I met were all very caring, and their home became a second home for the student.
